Welcome back to the TLMA blog where we bring you the latest insights from our agency, insights into the world of digital marketing and share a glimpse into the lives of our clients. In today’s blog post we look at what makes a good SEO agency and what to consider when choosing your agency.

As a luxury SEO agency we often meet with clients and prospective clients who are interested in our SEO services. SEO, as we have detailed previously, is one of the most highly converting traffic sources available through digital channels. Whilst PPC and social media have their merits and are an important aspect to any modern blend of marketing, in our experience SEO continues to provide the highest conversion rates, brand awareness and ought to form the backbone to any modern marketing mix.

What is SEO?

Search engine optimization can be defined as the process of growing the quality and quantity of website traffic by increasing the visibility of a website or a web page to users of a web search engine. SEO refers to the improvement of unpaid results and excludes direct traffic and the purchase of paid placement. Within SEO, there are two categories:

  • On page SEO
  • Off page SEO

On page SEO refers to any SEO work undertaken on a website such as content creation and technical SEO. Technical SEO itself is an umbrella term that includes the various factors Google takes into account when ranking a page and the subsequent work required to optimise them. These factors include, but are not limited to, meta data creation, alt tagging, speed optimisation and website UX and design. Off page SEO refers to the process of placing the website within the eco-system of the internet and, essentially, can be seen as connecting the site, via links, to other websites. Off page SEO is mainly associated with the creation of backlinks to other websites but can also refer to digital PR and local SEO.

What makes a good SEO agency?

Good SEO is a combination of a variety of factors and involves not only the performance of the website itself but also the relationship that is established with the agency itself. As a luxury digital agency, we take pride in the relationships that we build with our clients as well as the results that we obtain for them. Results, when it comes to marketing, are certainly the name of the game and, if you are new to the world of digital marketing, you will be pleased to here that the plethora of analytical offerings on the market allow for granular measurement of success. A good agency will work with you to understand your goals and own KPIs and adapt their solutions and work to assist you in achieving said goals. Measurements that are often tied to success include the increase in organic visitor numbers, increase in rankings through tracking programmes and, of course, conversions (sales and enquiries for example). Other factors that a good SEO agency will consider are visitor interactions, returning visitor numbers and bounce mates which can be used as metrics to show the workings of a targeted strategy.

How to get the best from your SEO agency?

As we touched upon earlier, we believe that the way to get the best from your SEO agency is to firstly define what the best means. What do you want to achieve? What are your goals? A good agency should encourage debate around this aspect and foster excitement and creativity within your brand. Secondly, by identifying the goals the agency should clearly and comprehensively build a plan for you to achieve this. Thirdly, monthly updates ought to be provided and regularly updates given in order to track progress. Finally, understanding. Relationships make the world go round and having a good relationship with your SEO agency and a mutual understanding allows both businesses to be on the same page to achieve great things together.
